Organizational Fact Sheet

Food and Organics Recycling for New Jersey
is a trade, professional, and stakeholder organization that promotes the expansion of markets for recycled organic products, connects interested parties, and enlists public support for food and organics composting and recycling as appropriate responses to various environmental and sustainability issues.  FOR NJ is also involved in research and public education, as well as the development and promotion of recycling technologies, facilities, and industry standards.

FOR NJ members are working to promote an understanding of the importance of recycling food residuals (also known as “food waste”) and other organic wastes, including biosolids, as responsible resource management for a cleaner and more productive economy, environment, and culture for all.  FOR NJ also provides a forum for emerging industries manufacturing valuable end products (fertilizers, soil amendments), producing jobs and capital, and reducing greenhouse gases locally.

FOR NJ will partner with the Solid Waste Resource Renewal Group at the Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station, the Association of New Jersey Recyclers, and other related organizations.

FOR NJ Membership:
Becoming a member of FOR NJ is easy!  Simply express an interest in Food Residuals/Organics Composting and Recycling, and join our web group.  The FOR NJ website, is created and used by members to advance organics recycling.  It provides a forum to ask questions, serves as a repository for resources and best practice information, and as a medium to share news and announcements about upcoming meetings.  FOR NJ already includes experts on appropriate technologies, waste reduction, and active organics recyclers.  FOR NJ also offers Certification Programs for generators, haulers, and processors.  Successful certification entitles you to display the FOR NJ logo on your door and/or materials.  We welcome you to join this effort to make a positive difference in our local environment and economy, and to keep valuable resources in ecological and economic circulation.
